Classroom Technology - Bringing IT All Together

Your school, like many others is probably talking about transitioning to a 1:1 model, that is if you have not already. There are many factors and limitations when implementing technology, such as budgeting and management. That is why it is important to make sure you can get all of your research done for every step prior to beginning the implementation.

Getting There
One of the hardest factors is actually getting the budget to provide these technology solutions school (or district) wide. Researching some cost savings methods can be one of the most crucial parts to the success of your program. One of the biggest cost savings mechanisms is desktop virtualization. You can estimate your total cost of implementing hardware for your 1:1 by clicking HERE.

You Have the PC's - Now What?
Once you have your PC hardware in place it is important to implement a proper management solution - not only for classroom management, but also for your organization as a whole. Implementing an IT Asset Management solution will help your IT staff manage this new influx of technology in an effective and efficient manor. When selecting an ITAM solution, please make sure to take in to consideration the integration of remote control and help desk software to offer simple and fast PC support to students, teachers, and administrators, district wide. - Please see my previous post on selecting the proper solution HERE.

Next Steps
The next thing to consider is what else you may need or want. Other devices to consider, of course based on your remaining budget, are devices such as interactive whiteboards.

Stay tuned for my post next week which will cover next steps, implementation, and classroom design.

  1. Budget is certainly a consideration, but there are Grants, Funding, and other Donation Sources. I Blog at www.helpingourschools.com with timely information about these opportunities. If you can write a lesson plan, you have the skill to write a grant.

  2. Bruce, thank you for your feedback. I think that your site could be of much use to many organizations out there that need assistance with grant writing.
